On Wednesday, one day before their terms in the Rajya Sabha came to an end, Union ministers Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and R C P Singh handed in their resignation letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to sources.

Sources said that earlier in the day, during the cabinet meeting, Modi praised R C P Singh and Naqvi for their contributions to the nation over the course of their tenures, thus implying that it was their last cabinet meeting.

Both ministers resigned as required by the constitution on Thursday, when their terms as Rajya Sabha MPs were slated to expire. As of Friday, they would no longer be members of parliament.

Senior BJP official Naqvi also serves as the Rajya Sabha’s deputy leader. Singh is a JD(U) quota minister in the Modi Cabinet.
