On Wednesday, Yashwant Sinha, presidential contender from opposition stated that he will ensure CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) is not implemented if he is elected as president.

Interacting with opposition members from Assam, Sinha claimed that the CAA has not yet been implemented since it was “foolishly prepared” in a rush by the BJP-led administration.
The government wanted to implement the Act throughout the nation, but has not been able to do so as of yet. “Citizenship is a major issue for Assam,” he said.

The administration previously cited COVID as a justification, but even today, he continued, “they have not been able to implement it because it is an Act poorly created in haste.”

Sinha claimed that persons in positions of power rather than any outside force were endangering the Constitution.

This presidential race is particularly important because it is a battle to save the Constitution, he said.

“Agencies like the ED, CBI, Income Tax department and even the governor’s offices are being used to target opposition leaders, to engineer defections and topple opposition-run state governments,” he stated.

“The ruling party has embarked on an evil design to communally polarise India’s multi-faith society, and its agenda of one nation, one party, one ruler is meant to convert democratic India into an imitator of Communist China,” he claimed.

“People do not know what she stands for. I have great personal regard for Droupadi Murmu, but this election is not about persons and their identities but about their commitment to Constitution,” he exclaimed.

Former Union minister Sinha stated that due to time restrictions, he was unable to visit all of the Northeastern states. As a result, he was pleading with the lawmakers of those states from Guwahati to listen to their consciences and cast thoughtful votes.

After the meeting, Rajya Sabha Independent MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan claimed Sinha was the best candidate for the presidency because of his in-depth knowledge of the nation.

Akhil Gogoi, an MLA, declared that the democracy is under great danger and that he has decided to back Sinha.
